Marketing & Communication Director

The Marketing and Communication Director (MarCom Director) is a key member of Fotografiska China leadership team and is in charge of branding, PR, digital marketing, media campaigns and brand/creative partnerships. The MarCom Director initially leads a team of 5 people and manages Fotografiska agencies and media budget. The position reports to China Managing Director.

 

Main Responsibilities:

Establish Fotografiska as a recognized and respected cultural brand in Shanghai

  • Develop a full “localization” plan of the global Fotografiska brand strategy and expression

  • Develop and execute a full branding marketing plan to be able to rapidly increase the visibility of Fotografiska image with different audiences: target visitors, artist and the creative community, brand partners.

  • Leverage relationships with artists, brand partners, KOLs to create a brand ambassador program.

  • Maintain a permanent active monitoring of brand mentions and be ready to act on unexpected opportunities / on issues before they become crisis

 

Develop and supervise a marketing plan delivering the expected museum traffic

  • Articulate a marketing strategy that respond to business objectives – including strategy, KPIs, Budget and expected contribution. The MarCom Director is the owner of the marketing budget and needs to arbitrate, adjust the effort throughout the year.

  • PR: Pilot key media relationships / develop a PR calendar that “lives” up to the general Shanghai Calendar

  • Digital Media Strategy: Supervise the integration of our digital system in the overall China ecosystem: “Wechat”, “Dianping”, “Xiaohongshu”, “Douyin” – including data integration, campaigns…

  • Supervise the OOH and other Media cooperation / purchases.

  • Develop a full fledge social media strategy, including “how to activate” the space to optimize posting from visitors.

 

Together with the other members of the leadership team, develop and animate a partnership and community outreach program

  • At Fotografiska, we want to connect to the creative elements of our surrounding and will develop a significant outreach program towards creative communities beyond photography: Music, Dance, Design, Contemporary creation, Technology, well-being. The Markcom will be one of the key players on this collective initiative.

 

In partnership with other departments, develop a product development roadmap covering F&B, retail, events…

  • We want our “curation” approach to go beyond the scope of our exhibition. We want the same creative spirit to be part of the way we do retail (we see our store as an hybrid between a traditional museum store and a concept store), F&B, Programming and eventually new elements that we could contribute to the community.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • You love and understand photography/arts as an important part of your life.

  • You have had 5 years’ marketing experience in leadership positions in either 

    • a cultural or entertainment-related organization,

    • a brand with a strong cultural dimension either in fashion, luxury or lifestyle 

    • an established media in the art and culture space

  • You have had substantial experience in managing social media and influencers and have a native understanding of digital marketing. You bring about a substantial network of influencers and thinkers that you can onboard in a project like Fotografiska.

  • You can think strategically and know how to build and follow a budget and have the business sense to see if it makes sense. You hate vanity metrics.

  • You like the atmosphere of a start-up more than that of large structured organization, at ease with taking direct responsibility and pushing hard for your views of what’s best for the company. 

  • You are a native Chinese speaker and speak English fluently.
